What Are You Having For Biscuits?

Just read that in 2020, sales of McVitie's biscuits in the UK alone were more than five times the next two competitors. Then consider their markets, other than the UK are: India, Italy, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Ireland, the Netherlands, Egypt, Sweden, Turkey and Israel.

I know you're probably thinking, "Fork me, Secure, you're bored!", but that made me think two things:

First, that is a sheet-load of biscuits, even before you consider all the other manufacturers selling biscuits in the UK, and second, it got me onto thinking what brand of biscuits you bought and what kind.

Are you a brand snob, or are you happy with supermarket knock-offs?

If you've swapped from McVities, have you noticed a huge drop in quality?

Personally, I don't eat many biscuits at all any more. But when I did, they were own label and I didn't think the extra was worth paying for McVities.

My faves were, in no particular order, fruit shortcake, hobnobs and Garibaldi, fig roll (there's a controversial one!) and digestives, with or without choccy.

What about you?

all our biscuits (and beer cupboard key) are kept in a safe with only the wife knowing the combination - before this I used to eat them all, I'm allowed 6 per day (biscuits that is)

I like a rich tea dunked in tea...(but just for 2.8 seconds or it'll be gone) :)

I do like a Digestive. I’m not paying nearly £2 a packet for McVities ones though. Tried many own brands but the one I find almost exactly the same as McVities are Lidl own brand ones (Tower Gate). Bigger packet and only 59p!

Which is what I happen to be nibbling on at the moment, with a slice of Gouda on, left over from Christmas. We also buy lots of Lidl's ginger nuts, preferring them to any others, and a fraction of their price. Av just bought a pack of minced beef from Lidl, to make cottage pies. She says she is not impressed with it, it's packed under high vacuum and impossible to part the mince, to cook it properly she says, due to how tightly packaged.

We had Lidl's smoked haddock for dinner yesterday. The front of the chilled pack said 'suitable for home freezing', the rear of the pack, said it had been previously frozen, before being packed - How does that work, I thought you were not supposed to refreeze something, without cooking in between?

Sainsbury’s mince is packed like that. Takes up less room in the fridge or freezer apparently. I din't mind it - you just have to separate it in the frying pan with a wooden spoon when browning it off.
