Let's look in to the history and raison d'etre of Hamas.
Hamas means, in Arabic, "Islamic resistance Movement". It's a resistance movement purely and simply against the occupation of Palestine.
Founded in 1987 as a movement against that occupation.
It has a political wing and a military wing.
Israel supported and funded Hamas as a means to prevent the establishment of the Palestinian Independent state. An objective of Israel for decades.

In the 2006 election in Gaza, Hamas secured the victory, campaigning on the issues of corruption free government, and resistance to the Israeli occupation of Gaza. (Please let us not divert into the allegations of corruption by Hamas in Gaza. They are merely propaganda, clothed in allegations designed to discredit Hamas).

Hamas military wing has only ever targeted Israel targets. Indeed Hamas have openly declared to be no threat to any other nation.

UK and other countries have declared Hamas as a terrorist group simply on USA and Israel persuasion.

There have been two submissions to UN (2018 and 2023 I believe) to declare Hamas as terrorists, bot have failed.

We could draw many comparisons, for example the IRA. to examine the subjective nature of the description of organisations as terrorists.
Only three countries ever recognised the IRA as terrorists, USA, UK and Ireland.

I've already mentioned the South African 'terrorist' designation, when Maggie Thatcher considered the ANC as terrorists.
Only three countries considered the ANC as terrorists, UK, SA and USA.
They have now morphed into the legally recognised government of SA.

Such is the subjectivity of the designation of terrorists.

if we, as the UK, were law abiding (in the UN sense) we would not see Hamas as terrorists.

Israel has been committing atrocities on a far greater scale against Palestinians for decades, than Hamas has against Israel.
Let us compare the situation in the West Bank with Gaza. The west Bank as a Palestinian territory is slowly, but surely disappearing.
It has no armed resistance movement. But its citizens are still being killed and illegally imprisoned. Their homes and land destroyed and they're being driven form that land.
