Mandatory ID cards (Brit Card) to be announced tomorrow

I don’t have a problem with being required to carry ID as long as they are happy with a picture on my phone. I have a problem with one digital ID being the official form of ID, removing the need for all other IDs.

I use cash as much as possible.
Using a card gives an insight into where you go and it is easy for anyone with ill intentions to work out where you will be at a certain time.
Most people live their lives by routine , if you have access to someone's bank statements, you will see a pattern appearing, some people go to the pub or Gym on a regular basis, when they pay with their card, the date and other details will appear on their account.

This means that physical surveillance is not necessary, I speak from experience (ex security force).
As the old saying goes..
Plastic is fantastic but cash is king.
Do you go by car and carry a mobile phone, walk or drive past any cameras……

I'm booked to go on a speed awareness course end of Oct, not sure why, I suspect they might want me to give a lecture to younger less experienced drivers. Anyway, got to bring ID but digital ID is not acceptable.

So how does the ID stop illegal migrants, as claimed? They're seeking asylum, not jobs? Or if they're working it will be in black market or 20 of them all sharing a Deliveroo/Just Eat job. So is Two Tier saying his gang smashing hasn't worked and one in one out is zero deterrent? Sounds like bs to me.

Hasn't it been the law for some years that employers and residential landlords have to check that prospective employees or tenants have the right to be working or seeking housing? How have they been doing this up to now? Passports, driving licences and national insurance numbers? So are Labour saying that the system isn't working and we need yet another form of ID to prove entitlement?

Lastly, how does anyone actually get the ID. Go along to some ID centre? Then how do they prove their identity and entitlement when at the centre? Using passports, driving licences and national insurance number? Does anyone see the flaws? Does anyone see the futulity? Does anyone see the irony?

Anyway, it won't affect me. Firstly I don't own a smart phone. Secondly I am early retired, get my bank pension at 60 next year, and definitely not seeking any form of employment.

It's a perfidious attempt to buttress an unpopular policy by hanging it on the hook of anti-immigration sentiment.
I'm ambivalent on the issue. But I recognise the fragility of the argument for the ID.

1) Given Speed limits have been more than halved over the last 20 years and in some cases halved again, without any significant improvement in casualty stats, do you think it might be a bit more complex than simply getting people to drive slower?
2) do you think there is a correlation between people being distracted by phones etc. and slower speed limits?
3) Do you think driving much slower than the safe speed for the conditions leads to humans disengaging their brain?
4) If speed kills, how come we have less accidents per bvkm on motorways than 20mph limits?
5) If there is an 80% chance of killing someone at 40mph and a 20% chance at 20mph, how come less than 2% of people hit in urban roads die?
6) Do you think reducing speed limits leads to more people breaking the speed limit?
7) Previously Road safety strategy set the speed limit according to the 85% of speed that people chose for the road. Essentially the speed that 99.9999% of drivers managed safely. Now speed limits are set according to the 50% of traffic speed. Do you think that this has resulted is Roads constantly having their speed limit cut without any link to road safety.
8) I am assuming that in order to teach this course, you have passed some sort of advanced driving qualification - Is that correct?
9) have you ever had points on your licence or been required to do a similar course?
10) if I can stop safely in the distance I can see to be clear on my own side of the road, Is my speeding unsafe?

It was a fair cop, I slowed down to 30, and drifted slowly up to 34.
Is it more than 6 months since the offence?

If so you can cancel the course

Devon Cornwall used to have zero tolerance days 31 in a 30 and they'd want you on the course, even though the type approval wouldn't hold up for the evidence.
