I'm booked to go on a speed awareness course end of Oct, not sure why, I suspect they might want me to give a lecture to younger less experienced drivers. Anyway, got to bring ID but digital ID is not acceptable.
1) Given Speed limits have been more than halved over the last 20 years and in some cases halved again, without any significant improvement in casualty stats, do you think it might be a bit more complex than simply getting people to drive slower?
2) do you think there is a correlation between people being distracted by phones etc. and slower speed limits?
3) Do you think driving much slower than the safe speed for the conditions leads to humans disengaging their brain?
4) If speed kills, how come we have less accidents per bvkm on motorways than 20mph limits?
5) If there is an 80% chance of killing someone at 40mph and a 20% chance at 20mph, how come less than 2% of people hit in urban roads die?
6) Do you think reducing speed limits leads to more people breaking the speed limit?
7) Previously Road safety strategy set the speed limit according to the 85% of speed that people chose for the road. Essentially the speed that 99.9999% of drivers managed safely. Now speed limits are set according to the 50% of traffic speed. Do you think that this has resulted is Roads constantly having their speed limit cut without any link to road safety.
8) I am assuming that in order to teach this course, you have passed some sort of advanced driving qualification - Is that correct?
9) have you ever had points on your licence or been required to do a similar course?
10) if I can stop safely in the distance I can see to be clear on my own side of the road, Is my speeding unsafe?
