What have you been doing today?

Well, yesterday the MIL was on her way back home on a coach holiday when we’r she needed to go to hospital. We arrived about 9 pm - still here and will then need to drive to her house, then back to ours and that means passing 4 different major road closures with resulting diversions ☹️

Not sure I’ll be getting much sleep tonight

Is she ok?

More decorating round my mums bungalow. I’m doing all the graft, my sister is out buying lights, carpets, curtains etc. More painting in the main bedroom, took up the carpet and took that down the dump, removed and spray painted the rad with a specialist radiator paint - now looks like new. In the kitchen my mum had a tall larder unit that housed the boiler in the bottom, a combination microwave oven in the middle and a cupboard at the top. The oven was buggered - kept randomly popping the breaker - she had a separate oven as well. I removed the combination oven, it was bloody heavy and thought I’d leave that out for the scrap man. Blow me if one didn’t go past before I’d got it to the end of her drive. They anchored up, reversed back and it was gone in 60 seconds! Up in the loft was a kitchen door that was originally for a built-in washer or dryer and by removing an infill panel and lowering the large door, I was able to fit the spare door in the middle. A bit of fiddling with the shelves inside and it was job done.

Finished off the first room today, fitted a new ceiling light. TBH, I got a bit upset a couple of times today, as did my sister. Just doesn’t seem right, chucking our mums stuff away (some went to charity shops), taking her money and her home. I know that’s what she wanted but we'd rather have our mum. :(

At home now but only time will tell. Got to bed at 4.30 am
It’s proper stressful waiting in A&E, worrying about what might be wrong + not knowing how long and naturally getting home at daybreak is super draining.

I hope your MIL is okay, your wife must be very worried

I had another 'bad do' during the night - far from home. I had a mild one in the middle of the day, last week. Do, as in - a sort of weird anxiety/panic attack. Panting for breath, physical weakness, running too hot, then shivering with cold, not knowing whether I want to sit, lie down or what to ease the horrible feeling - last night, I noticed my right arm felt odd.

At midnight, I had Av ring 111, to try to get a diagnosis in vain at 12:30. They finally got a nurse to ring back at 2:30, who because there was no actual injury, was unable to make head or tail of it, but eventually agreed a doctor would ring me back. Doctor rang, just as I was finally getting over it, at 4:30, and beginning to doze off, to try yet again to explain the weird symptoms, and seemed equally baffled. Finally she offered see my GP when I get home, or I could be collected by ambulance, for a stay in hospital. I settled on waiting to try to see my GP, they are ringing anyway, on the 6th.

The symptoms, along with the night cramps, and dry mouth, had declined when stopped the Atorvastatin for two weeks. Then gradually came back when the doc prescribed rosuvastatin, as an alternative.

This seems to almost confirm my side-effects, might be due to statins....

'Atorvastatin, used in the previous trial, is a highly potent statin that can reach the brain. Giving atorvastatin for seven days to healthy volunteers was associated with worse emotional perceptions, linked to later development of depressive and anxiety symptoms.

Simvastatin, used in the current trial, is a less strong statin, but it is also capable of entering the brain. Giving simvastatin for seven days to healthy volunteers was associated with a small improvement of emotional perceptions, which could in time lead to a reduction of depressive symptoms.'

I’m on Atorvastatin. Used to give me muscle aches but it’s either stopped or I’ve gotten used to it!

A lot of people are very vocal about the issues with statins. I've been on them several years, I've coped with the leg cramps, the nightmares, struggled with the constant dry mouth, then these weird, and very scary episodes began. Like nothing, I had ever experienced before, so I wasn't even sure quite how to describe them. Waking in the night, and gradually becoming desperately anxious. Too hot, and too cold at the same time, didn't know whether I wanted to sit, or lie down on the floor, panting, unable to get enough air.

I've been hoping a doc, might be able to see state of me, in the midst of one of these episodes, but all the doc who finally rang me back, was able to suggest, was to take a paracetamol. For now, I've stopped taking the statins, until I can get to sort something out with my GP.

A few weeks ago, I filed an application for Attendance Allowance. They rang me to clear up a few points, not clear in the form, early last week, but I had to abandon the call, because I had one of my weird episodes - the only one so far, during the day. They rang me back to continue the call today, and I was able to clear things up, and convince them of the need.

More scrap put out today. A couple of headboards, some garden chairs, a large, heavy box of drill bits and a central heating radiator. This time, surprisingly, it took a full 20 minutes before someone stopped. Even more surprisingly, it was an English scrappy! They’re getting as rare as red squirrels round here with the influx of the Eastern European grey squirrel scrappy!

I put one out, last weekend, no one wanted it, so I ended up, braking it up. It was a leather-look, and brand new, bought and never used.
