What have you been doing today?

More clearing out of my mums house earlier today. My sister found a letter from Coventry BS and it turned out she had a substantial sum in there too. They are sending me details of what to do about it.
What a fùck about! Sent in the account closure form, filled in the relevant details - mine and my sisters names, death certificate, proof of account in my name that the money is to be paid into and we both signed it. They also wanted certified proof of ID - certified by a doctor, accountant, solicitor etc UNLESS we had an account with them. For quickness, we both opened an account with them in minutes and gave our account numbers. Heard nothing. Phoned up last week and they wanted us to send specimen signatures - the same as what we had already signed. Sent those off, still nothing, phoned up today and they said the specimen signatures we sent didn’t match those on the form! So, got to now go and get copies of passports and get someone to 'certify' them. Every other BS and ISA company that were holding her money have paid up and some of them were larger amounts than what is in the Coventry BS account. I think they've just got the 'ump because we opened two accounts that we were never going to use.

Or maybe they want to be totally sure you are not scamming.

Financial bodies are under a lot of pressure to ensure they know who they are dealing with .

I’m assuming they run some kind of check when we opened accounts with them, plus they have proof of an account in my name that they are to pay into.

Ended up getting a manager in our building society to certify the photocopies of our passports and sent those off. I’m expecting them to refuse them as the signature of the same manager on both copies, done one after another, are as different as chalk and cheese!

The specialist bereavement departments, of banking institutions, tend to be more on the ball. However, TSB's specialists, made an appointment for me, with a bank in the local large town, advised exactly what paperwork would be needed, I then attended the appointment, with all that was needed. They made copies of everything, then promptly lost the lot.

We took our dog to the vets as his gums were a bit swollen and as we are leaving for 15 days we wanted him to be ok, the vet did an inspection of his gums and she said we need to do blood tests, so she said it will be fine when we return home. She showed the images of his gums to the senior surgeon who rang us to say he wants him in for blood tests and a scan and if they are ok they need to operate immediately as it looks like a growth rather than his gums being swollen. They did the cans and blood tests and within the hour told us it was a very aggresive form of cancer and it had spread down his throat to his tonsils, he said he would have 3 to 4 weeks at the most due to the nature of the growth. It was an alternative to bring him home where he would have had a terrible and a traumatic life left, we decided it was best for him to be put to sleep whilst he was still under thee anesthetic. I didn't want to be selfish and bring him home to be distressed. He is 17 years and has had the best life ever. Lena and I haven't stopped crying since, we cannot cope with it at the moment and we are deeply shocked and stunned. It is so difficult as everything reminds us of him and we cannot even speak about it. My eyes are streaming typing this. No more pets for us as we cannot deal with this, his brother is at a loss and searching for him all around the house.

That's so sad mate but you gave him a great life, you did the right thing (y)

So sorry to hear anything like this. We went through it earlier this year and had to let our Susie go. We still miss her but it does get better. Sounds like you gave her a great life and as a responsible dog owner, you did the right thing. It might not feel like it now but it will get better for you both.

Thank you Mottie,, I hope it does get better as I am in pieces

What with having to get rid of our dirty diesel Golf due to that bloody Khan, I’ve been looking for another second car. Due to having to fork out £620 a year for the next 5 years to tax the new motor, I was particularly looking to get something in the £35 a year tax bracket to even things up. I saw a Fiesta for sale in Putney that fitted my bill so I jumped on a train and went over to have a look. It was a 2014 1.25 Zetec model that he had owned since 2015. Very good nick with just a slight parking dink on the rear wheel arch. He'd just had it MOT'd last week and had spent £701 getting it tested, serviced, a couple of new suspension arms, tracking and a windscreen washer pump fitted. He was asking £2,500 for it which wasn’t a bad price. I noticed that a piece of rubber was hanging off the auxiliary belt and flapping around and pointed that out to him. He asked if that was the timing belt and I said 'no' but asked him if he’d had it done. He said he hadn’t but another potential purchaser had asked him the same question and when he said no, they weren’t interested in buying it. I asked him what the best price he could do was, he said £2,250, I tried him at £2,000 and he said yes! I weighed him out there and then and drove it home. What a mission that was on a Friday afternoon. Took me over 2 and a half hours in traffic and three quarters of that was at 20mph. Got to look carefully at my route home now to see if I went in the central London congestion zone. I'm going to buy the belts tomorrow and fit them later in the week. Just £60 for a cam belt kit and an auxiliary belt and they are a doddle to do. Another bonus was that it had a near full tank of fuel too.

Nice buy.

What have I been doing today?
Watching my wife slowly slowly die. Heart function at 20% of what it should be, liver getting damaged, held in a coma.
If a woman has a pain anywhere in her chest or back, immediately get an ecg and insist on a scan of some sort if there's the slightest thing out of 100% right.
They could be having a silent heart attack, and by the time it's really noticeable, their heart will be beyond repair.
It's often the more active women.
Tell your wife so she knows about the bloody things.

Firstly, sorry to hear Highway's and Justin's terrible news. I can't lighten the mood at all because my Dad was rushed to hospital from his care home Weds evening where they confirmed a stroke. Now on a stroke ward also with pneumonia. Not been concious since he arrived and breathing is a bit laboured, plus right side paralysis. Spent a lot of time in the hospital for last 2 days. He's been slowly declining for 18 months one way or another, but this is the worst episode. Still, suppose he's done well to get to 92.
