Revolting Iranians

Looks like some minor precision strikes by Israeli air force, IRGC headquarters, drone bases, no reports of any retaliation so far, riots ongoing.

Back the to Golden age of the Shah.
I would bet the Iranians can't wait.

The events which lead to the Islamic revolution..

The rule of Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, the last Shah of Iran (1953–1979), is widely characterized as an authoritarian regime that maintained power through a "rule of terror" characterized by brutal repression, political executions, and the use of secret police
. While the Shah initiated modernization efforts like the White Revolution, his administration was seen by many as a corrupt, repressive dictatorship beholden to Western powers.
Key aspects of the Shah's "rule of terror" included:
  • SAVAK Secret Police: The Shah established SAVAK in 1957 with help from the CIA and Israeli intelligence to crack down on dissent. SAVAK became notorious for torturing, imprisoning, and killing political opponents, including communists, Islamists, and secular reformers.
  • Violent Suppression of Dissent: The regime frequently used the military to violently crush protests and strikes. Notable events included the shooting of students in Qum and the brutal killing of protesters in Yazd.
  • "Black Friday" (1978): On September 8, 1978, the Shah declared martial law and ordered soldiers to fire on demonstrators in Tehran, resulting in a high number of casualties that acted as a turning point against his rule.
  • Human Rights Abuses: Reports from Amnesty International described horrific torture methods used by SAVAK, including electric shocks, whipping, boiling water, and sexual assault.
  • Systematic Corruption and Inequality: Despite an oil boom, wealth was concentrated among the elite and the royal family, with substantial portions of the population remaining in poverty.
  • Political Constraints: The Shah banned all opposition parties, forcing citizens into a single party, the Rastakhiz Party.
Legacy and Transition
The harshness of the Shah's rule, particularly the suppression of moderate voices, is often cited as a reason for the rise of Ayatollah Khomeini and the eventual success of the 1979 Islamic Revolution. The vacuum created by the crackdown on other political groups allowed the Islamist movement to take over.

There was an interesting analysis in the NY Times yesterday. Basically saying that, after fifty years, both the Iranian regime and the people are now exhausted and have accepted that they will not be able to spread the Islamic revolution. The upshot was that everyone is ready for more sensible moderate leadership once the Ayatollah dies or resigns. So, there won't be regime change as such. Just a less mad version of what we have now.

The events which lead to the Islamic revolution..

Do you think the Iranians would be better off sticking with the Ayatollahs?, do you think the rest of the Middle East would be better off with the Ayatollahs continuing to fund terror throughout the Middle East.

Come on mate, we know the Shah was far from perfect and I don't think anyone is suggesting a return to those days, including the Crown Prince himself but it needs to be determined by the Iranian people with whatever outside help they can get.

I asked Google AI about the combined impact of these three major events from 1979. I found the answer a useful starting point:

'In 1979, three major events occurred that fundamentally reshaped the geopolitical and religious landscape of the Middle East and the broader Islamic world.
  • The Iranian Revolution (February 1979): This popular uprising led to the overthrow of the pro-Western Pahlavi dynasty and the establishment of an Islamic Republic under Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini. The revolution ended centuries of monarchy in Iran and replaced it with a theocratic government based on the concept of velāyat-e faqīh (guardianship of the jurist).
  • The Grand Mosque Seizure in Mecca (November 20 – December 4, 1979): Hundreds of armed Islamic extremists led by Juhayman al-Otaybi seized the Masjid al-Haram, Islam’s holiest site. They declared one of their leaders to be the Mahdi (a messianic figure) and called for the overthrow of the Saudi monarchy. The siege lasted two weeks, ending after a bloody battle involving Saudi forces and French advisors; it subsequently pushed Saudi Arabia toward a much more conservative religious path.
  • The Soviet Invasion of Afghanistan (December 25, 1979): The Soviet Union sent thousands of troops into Afghanistan to prop up a faltering Marxist regime. This intervention sparked a decade-long war against the mujahideen—Islamic guerrillas backed by the United States, Pakistan, and Saudi Arabia—and became a major focal point of the late Cold War.
These events collectively intensified the regional rivalry between Saudi Arabia and Iran and catalyzed the rise of modern transnational jihadist movements.'

The Middle East will never be at peace while the West continues to meddle in the affairs of countries in the region.
Would Palestine be in the state it is in now if the British hadn't meddled in its affairs.
Would Iran be in the state it is in now if the British and Americans hadn't overthrown a democratically elected government.
Over a century of involvement by Western powers has produced nothing but chaos, millions of refugees and terrorism in Europe.

What would Trump do if protesters were rioting, burning buildings and damaging property?

If there were mass protests against him, Trump 2.0 would definitely have them shot. He almost did last time, but was talked out of it.

Do you think the Iranians would be better off sticking with the Ayatollahs?
When the alternative is the Trumpy-verse?

None of wants to see dictatorial nutter nations ruling the world i.e. China, Russia, N Korea, Israel, Trump's America, no.

So tell us what the full truth is.
You would not believe the truth even if smacked you in the chops. Anyone that dredges far right biased clap trap, just to get warm and cosy with fascists and murderers, is too far down the rabbit hole to believe reliable news outlets.
