Hi all

We have a 6m x3m conservatory with glass roof. As usual, the space is completely useless in winter - and pointlessly hot in summer…

We understand the current foundations are 0.9m deep - local builder contacts are suggesting we could remove windows and roof, replacing with an increase in height to the current dwarf wall. This would allow for a reduction in glazing on about half of what it is now, some full height (to roof) walls/pillars and a pitched roof - perhaps concrete-tiled, but more likely with lightweight tiles to compensate for increased weight of walls.

Does this sound feasible - and cost effective? Assumptions are around £12k for the lot - would it give us the more usable space we’re seeking?!

Thanks

I would think heat and insulate it for winter and shades for summer would be easier and cheaper

I'd want to physically confirm that the foundations are as deep as the house and that the concrete is the correct thickness and width, before committing to any alterations above.

If they are of good quality and that masonry adheres to B'regulations, then you have a good start point.

Is the dwarf wall single /double or cavity?
You could potentially build with timber /insulation rather than brick.
Assuming that you don’t want to include this into the house.
