No hot water in electric shower

I’ve got a triton cara 8.5 kw shower that’s stopped providing hot water. It has a power supply and cables are well connected.

I notice that there is no continuity between the screws I have circled in yellow. Is this likely to be the issue?

Yes, that is a thermal trip. Replace it.

Is it providing cold water. If not you need to rectify that before replacing the cut out

Yes cold water regardless of where the shower dial is. If it’s turned to hot, the pressured reduces ( like it did when. It worked) but the water is still cold. Does it still point to thermal cut out?

Just bear in mind that with an Electric shower (and a lot of appliances too) it costs proportionally more to buy individual parts than to but the whole appliance itself and then the cost/trouble of replacing them.
Not so much with a thermal cut out I know but with heating elements etc it is rarely worthwhile.

From the picture it looks like the thermal cut out might be on the Line side of things but bear in mind that a manufacturer might put them on the N side of things and some manufacturers do not put them so they cut out all of elements of the usual 2 or 3 elements but sometimes just one or two so when it trips to off it merely reduces the heat rather than cutting it off completely.

The cut-out was going to cost around £15 and the shower cost me just over £40. It's a shame as it's not great for the environment but I am running the risk that it may not be the cut-out. There may be additional faults.

Didn't realise until I started checking last night. I would have preferred a repair and not just for economic reasons but t needs to make some economic sense. Struggling in this instance.

I am not familiar with that particular model but I have fitted a few Tritons and a lot of them are "much of a muchness" . £40 is cheap at a quick glance of between £50 and £85 and if the thermal cut out is £15 and this particular part is fairly easy to fit the 40 to 15 is no contest to me (I would err on replacing the unit though).
Another thing when use spares to replace you also need to consider everything else might be nearing its end of life too, depends on how long and how often its been in service etc.

Unlikely, more likely is that it simply overheated, due to being turned too hot, and did what it is designed to do - tripped to avoid scalding. £40 means a very basic, low spec. shower - now, might be a good time to look at something better.

The simple way to confirm it is only the overheat trip which has failed, is to link its terminals, and give the shower a quick run. If the water heats up, everything else is OK, but the trip.
