Mandelson

If Farage can make someone who is on the Russian payroll leader of the Welsh Reform party and stay in his job, Starmer should be safe.

Not in the same league as Mandelson.
Mandy is in the same league as a spy given the information he apparently released (whether or not for money). The police should be investigating him under espionage legislation.

Remind us, please, what Sir Laurie Magnus's investigation concluded.

That she was a wrong 'un.

On 5 September 2025, his report found that Angela Rayner, the Deputy Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, had broken the Ministerial Code after she was found to have failed to pay enough stamp duty on the purchase of a property in Hove. She subsequently resigned from the Cabinet on the basis of this report.<a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sir_Laurie_Magnus,_3rd_Baronet#cite_note-10"><span>[</span>10<span>]</span></a>

I read that she was forced to resign her ministerial position as a result of his conclusions.

Ms Rayner has provided her full and open cooperation in assisting me with my inquiries. Her decision to provide greater public transparency by applying to remove the confidentiality undertaking in a court order protecting her family's domestic financial circumstances was, in particular, clearly very difficult to reconcile with her understandable wish to shield members of her family from the glare of media attention.
.
.
With Ms Rayner's full cooperation and assistance, I have reviewed relevant documentation from the property transaction. This has included the advice she received at the time from the legal firms involved and the associated documentation that was prepared for her to effect the purchase. This advice gave rise to Ms Rayner's understanding - which I consider to have been held in good faith - that the lower rate of SDLT was applicable when purchasing the property in Hove.
.
.
a) Ms Rayner was open about the existence of the Trust and considered that, between them, the firms advising her had appropriate knowledge and awareness of the details and circumstances of the Trust;

b) on the basis of the advice she received, Ms Rayner believed that the lower rate of SDLT would be applicable; indeed she was twice informed in writing that this was the case; but

c) in those two instances, that advice was qualified by the acknowledgement that it did not constitute expert tax advice and was accompanied by a suggestion, or in one case a recommendation, that specific tax advice be obtained; and

d) if such expert tax advice had been received, as it later was, it would likely have advised her that a higher rate of SDLT was payable.
.
.
I believe Ms Rayner has acted with integrity and with a dedicated and exemplary commitment to public service. I consider, however, that her unfortunate failure to settle her SDLT liability at the correct level, coupled with the fact that this was established only following intensive public scrutiny, leads me to advise you that, in relation to this matter, she cannot be considered to have met the "highest possible standards of proper conduct" as envisaged by the Code.

Hardly a sin of commission, not an attempt to evade tax.

All this sort of thing:

Let's also hope that Labour party realise that allowing Mandelson back was a particularly stupid idea, and therefore don't allow a comeback from Angela Raynor.
Even more amusing watching the house debate whilst Angela Raynor is there talking about scrutiny and honesty...more lolz. Shower of sh't

is people pretending to be outraged over what was a genuine mistake because they fear that Angela Rayner would be a good leader, and they so don't want that.

.... this isn’t a rant against Labour.
.
.
Have i made it clear now, this isn't bashing labour, this is about trying to make the way our country run is improved. I also have a beef with all Cabinet members appointed to roles they have no fekin idea about also (another topic).

Angela Rayner is still hanging around like a lingering fart, she should be gone also, again i say this from a perspective of what's best for our country and politics, she's been shown to be unfit for this level of politics, fine go back work in a civil role lower ranked but not when it influences the running of our country, she blew her chance.

OK, so given all that, who do you think would make the best leader for Labour party, to be the new PM who would improve the way the country is run, who would be best for our country?

Please don't try a cop out like "None of them", or "election now" - there has to be someone, and an election ain't happening any time soon. Who would you say would be in the best interests of the country for the next 3 years?

Unless there is some talent hiding in the back benches there aren't many options. Andy Burnham?, West Streeting? Yvette Cooper? none of whom I would describe as political heavyweights.

Admittedly, the Conservatives are in the same position.

Given his record in Manchester, Burnham is the best choice and more of a 'political heavyweight' than you perceive...

But that's why he was sidelined by Starmer!

I still reckon there will time for Burnham to find a way in (maybe not immediately), especially if the May elections go as predicted.

No they're not, they're in opposition.
