How to replace a leaky WC Cistern syphon

Going by the avocado tint and the presence of 4(!) fixing bolts I'd date that to the very early seventies.

Not saying it can't be fixed but IMO retirement would be the kinder option.

Many thanks for this Denso!
From what I've discovered after browsing the Web on this topic, a Close Coupled pan looks like
1783856365738.png

With a hole in the back of the pan, into which the base end of the syphon protrudes. This base end is a 5-10cm diameter nylon (or polythene) tube, threaded on its outside. This tube passes through a hole in the base of the cistern. A nylon (or polythene) nut of a size corresponding to this tube secures the tube to the base of the cistern (with a neoprene washer aka gasket) between the nut and the cistern base for water-tightness. The protruding end of this tube simply passes into the hole at the back of the pan, without any fixings.

Please confirm if my above description is correct.

Once again Denso, many thanks for your kindness and advice!

I now know what I need to do. I will soon get the parts per your links, from Screwfix, summon the willpower to proceed and get cracking.

Incidentally, I have a pair of Waterpump pliers https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B000LFXBF0?ref_=ppx_hzsearch_conn_dt_b_fed_asin_title_2&th=1 Will this be suitable for undoing the syphon fixing nut, or is there a more appropriate tool for this purpose?

There is a metal fixing plate that goes between the nut and cistern on the outside bottom which is used two fixings the pan to the cistern.

They should be big enough.

You are spot on with your dates, Poles! We moved in in 1975 and the bathroom fittings were brand new at the time. Avocado with gold metallic taps. The bathroom fittings, washbasin and tub went in around 2009 being replaced with a sit down shower.
I do intend replacing the loo too, but have plenty of things on my plate already. Fixing the syphon leak is a stopgap (to cut down on the water bills), until I have whittled down my ToDo list and can arrange for a builder to replace the WC.

@denso, P&D, Delalio & Poles - I have to say, you gentlemen are worth your weight in gold! I have not come across an advice forum which offers advice as helpfully, as quickly & as knowledgeably as you lot. Well done gents! Please keep it up.

There is normally also a "doughnut" rubber seal ring between the bottom of the cistern and the top of the pan. You may be able to use the existing one, but gettring a new one of the same size is adviseable
