Is this notifiable and how to run wire?

Hi,

I’m looking to replace my bathroom cabinet between two lights with one of the ones that lights up via wired connection.

My understanding is that because it is more than 60cm from the shower or bath horiztonally this is not notifiable work. However, do controls apply to sinks?

Also, the wall is brick. Without sounding stupid, I’ve not run a wire through brick before. Any good suggestions for how I can run a connection to the existing lights circuit, or will it be too difficult?

Thanks!

You're looking at English comprehension not an electrical question.

Does it mean the whole room, or just within the limits given? There are loads of rules and regulations, and if we were to obey them all, then there would be no electrical DIY.

The quote is from the guide, not the law, and England and Wales are not the same.

In real terms, only when something goes wrong, will case law be generated, and we all hope we will not be involved in the making of case law.

Correct.

No, and it's a basin anyway.

If you want to connect to one of the existing lights, a narrow slot will need to be cut into the plaster horizontally from one of the lights to behind the new cabinet.
Wide enough for the cable, and deep enough so that the cable will fit into it and filler/plaster can be added over it.
Circuit will need to have RCD protection.
