Hardware Shops

I assume that all new shops these days are money laundering scams for ill gotten gains, or just don't pay any rent or taxes then shut down after a few months.
 
We used to have one in town, they were knowledgeable but did not have the space to stock anything more than the essentials. I think the problem is the cost of space. Another example of "death of the high Street". Only the big chains can afford the rent

The problem is though that everything is Chinese tat anyway. You may as well just buy directly from Temu or AliExpress instead of paying a British (or probably not) middleman twice the price for the same rubbish from China.

The days when you could buy tools and parts that were made in the UK are gone anyway, they've been taxed and regulated out of existence by successive governments since about 2000 onwards. We don't make anything now.

You're right, but every now and then I am surprised to discover a British success story. Bought a Henry vac the other day and was pleasantly surprised to read in the manual that it was made down the road from me in Somerset. Although this is a successful company that exports all different models of vacs all over the world, unlike Dyson they have avoided moving to the Far East. For now.
 
All types of high street shops are failing due to costs which online retailers just don’t have . Unless you are really niche high street shop, and therefor high streets will decline .
