Your probably more secure hiding a key under a flower pot that unlocks another lock that unlocks another lock (all in different locations) that gives final access to the key.
Too much information...In the past, I have recommended that people hide keys in places several metres from their home. If someone finds the key, they will have no idea which property it belongs to. The/a downside is that you may need to hide more than key just incase a gardener/etc finds it and bins it.
Years ago my mum had a magnetic box which held her car key under the car. I was 17, I was dating a danish au pair. She never noticed the stains on the back seats...
