Earlier today, a friends friend opened a pack of sliced turkey and found a pin embedded in the meat. Phoned the manufacturer who said they couldn't comment without seeing the evidence, and suggested that she sent the whole pack back for examination. Not a good idea I said, for once it's out of your hands it's history. In other words hold on to the meat and the pin because they are your evidence. What is the right thing to do?

And when it's been to court, and dealt with, ie, they get fined, you don't even get back the price of the item, you now have to take them to court.

Most companies will BOB to offer suitable recompense to cover distress caused.

I had a pack of M&S fruit slices: some were missing, some were mangled.

Next morning, a baker's van appeared bearing a whole tray of goods & a huge assortment of Fox's biscuits.

a mate once complained quite bitterly that regal fags were not as good as they used to be.

few days later an assortment of the manufacturers cigarette 20's were delivered for him to compare or choose an new brand.

He's just looking for a bit of 'pin money'.

He's a she and the sandwich she was about to make was for her two years old son! In any case I dont think that she is in need of the inessentials that pin money would bring. However, I do appreciate the pun.

Send it back, they might have to issue product recalls down all their supply chains. There could be other products with the same issue - machine fault etc. What if the other customers aren't so lucky? Want that on your conscience?

Do you honestly think that if the pin was sent back there would be product recalls? No, I go along with the Trading Standards suggestion on this one and and the matter has been reported.

Going to trading Standards could be the same, no guarantee it wasnt put there by her, she'd may have to prove otherwise?
