incorrect meter labelling

I can appreciate the apprehension in turning off a meter when you are not sure whch flat it services. To turn off the gas supply to an unknown flat, and then turn on again, is dangerous, and that isn't rocket science.

Why doesn't the OP wait until the early hours (there has to be some strange film on TV to pass the time) then when all occupants of the flats - and their meters - are asleep, or at least quiescent, turn on your heating. Everyone else's should be off, so your meter should start razzing away. Not fool proof, but it might give an indication.

Well you turn it off and leave it off... The rightful owner is bound to call NG so it can all be sorted out...

that was the point of my post, i don't think they are sure whos meter belongs to who

His bill will have a number which matches the number on the meter.

His bill has a number on yes, but that matches the meter that is labelled wrong(which is apparently my meter).

We don't give a dam about his meter at this time, prove you have the wrong one first, Give me patience please.

Turn YOUR meter off not his or anyone else's. or are you extracting the mick, and know it's wrong

So what's the point of posting on here, are you waiting for everyone to have a whipround?

Just wondering how on earth they are going to work out the billing and provide proof of who's is who's meter. Also how they are likely to charge me for this?Am I liable for the charges if the both suppliers have made such a grave error for so long.
No Im not after a wip around :) , but it's going to hit me in the pocket at bad time.

Bottom line is mate that if you've used the gas than you are liable.

Or,if you've not used the gas then you are due a refund.

Yer going to have to face up to it at some point, obviously yer nieghbour is not going to let things lie for much longer and ,frankly,I don't blame her.

God only knows who much both of you owe to the gas supplier.

Alternatively you could move

I'm going to contact my supplier and he'll contact his to let them know. He's hoping to get an engineer to site via the provider to ascertain which supply serves which flat but I doubt that will happen for a while,if at all as he has recently told his last supplier where to go.I'm not going to start fiddling with gas supplies at this point I'll leave that up to the relevant engineer that turns up on site.Thinks he's changed three suppliers in less than 2 years so it'll be a nightmare to sort out.If the meters are the wrong way around my readings will double so i'll be out of pocket quite a bit.
I'd like to help my neighbour out with the difference he's over paid but I could end up being charged by the suplier as well.

Just providing feedback Corgigrouch.
In the end I just met up with my neighbour and isolated each meter. Was a bit miffed at the time, but in the end its the best thing to do.He's contacted his supplier and I've contacted mine.Thought it best to sort out and get on to my supplier ahead of time, might work in my favour.I guess her supplier will contact mine in the future anyway to swap the meter billing over.Neighbour also wants to retrive her losses via the developer, which I think is a bit of dead end.
