Just a quick question and hopefully some information of some of you sparks on here.
I am going to be fitting two security lights to my property running from a FCU from the ring main.
Main dilema is how to wire them both up.
with not wanting to destroy the IP rating of the lights I can not run 1 cable to first light and then loop out to 2nd. 2 cables running into 1 light will obviously leave a slight gap in the grommit and therefore let water in.
So is there a external waterproof cable splitter available? (great terminology used there  )
or would it be easier just running two cables from the switch to the individual lights.
any advice?

Replacement fitting I just did this morning had two cable entry points, one on the left and another on the right, I think most of them are similar?

The one I used was a basic 500w w/ PIR from wickes

Might be a little tight in there with a cable in each side, but should be perfectly do-able

Yeah, left and right sides each have a cutout in the casing with a grommit and a cord grip

Nice one,
so to save me from having to post again, on the slight chance the lights i get dont have dual entry
is there any other preferred method in your opinion?

many thanks anyhow :)

well i was hoping to try and do without an external junction box.
one as if it was my house i wouldnt want a external box as they dont look to nice and obviously, even though it aint my problem, it is the price side. The one i quickly found (link in above mail) is expensive and also would look crap on the outside of house.
hence the opinion of trying to run two seperate cables from the FCU itself.

Im just hoping it is as adam says and there is dual entry etc.

well definetly cheaper then the 20 odd quid ones i saw :)

Still think that it will not look to good on the outside of the house.

But when it comes to the crunch if you need to keep the IP rating of the security light and if it is single entry then this is one option.

Of course, sticking two cables out of the FCU is still another option, even tho you will then use twice as much cable possibly.

Many Thanks

Yeah, adaptable box with stuffing glands would be the way to do it if you needed to split it outdoors (Am I alone in not thinking much of those rubber gromit things you make a hole in?)

Or I suppose you could gland your stuffing glands into a galv conduit box with gasket on the lid, probably would look even less right on a house... even less so if you cabled between the boxes in SWA, and just dropped to the light with flex through a stuffing gland!

P.S. will get to your email soon :)

The right way to do it though
