As an aside, I wonder if that same sparky is now exercising the same diligence as part of the Competent Person Scheme, leaving homeowners with that warm glowing feeling of a job properly done in accordance with the law...Top screw was just that little bit too long, and managed to screw into the 3 core, missing the earth, but making contact with one of the lives.

If you're going to get picky with words, then you also wrote "guess", not spot or deduce or 'rubbish like that'. The word "guess" implies that the fault was neither obvious nor visible.I thought it was pretty obvious to be honest, and I did say FAULT, not observation or deviation or rubbish like that.
