Halstead are giving 2 year Guarantee on their boilers. Worcester Bosch 2 years and 10 years on Gas Heat Exchangers, 5 years on Oil Heat Exchangers.

Call me cynical but the majority of these extended wararanties are worthless; it's just marketing carp. I do agree the Viessman heat exchangers are significantly better than any other manufacturer and its failure will more likley be on the water side (ie settlement of sludge buildup).

How many installers are honest and point out the terms and conditions of the warranty ie installed exactly as per MIs, system water spotless, all paperwork filled in correctly and returned, proper annual service carried out and logbook signed (not just a 2 minute FGA check).

Compliance with that little lot will rule out 90% of claims. Then take into account the lost paperwork, the fact that occupants move home every 3 or 4 years etc so continuation of servicing may not happen.

I've know of homeowners who have tried to claim, they gave up and ended up with a new boiler...when you've got no hot water/heating you aren't going to wait weeks for a claim to be settled. I've yet to meet anyone that is fully aware of the T&C's....they just take the 2/5/10 year warranty at face value but those of us in the industry no what a bunch of crooks the manufacturers really are.

Totally agree. Its all bo¬¬ox.
My old Thorn Olympic is now 25 years young and I dont give a monkeys how long the guarantee lasted.

Wow! All those high gas bills!!

My netaheat is 26 years old and has NEVER had the cover removed.

A check with FGA says it is running perfectly!

My gas bills are similar to my neighbours who is on their THIRD boiler in the same period!

Usage is very similar!

I fart in your general direction, your mother was a etc etc etc etc etc.......

Wow! All those high gas bills!!

Er NOT! 3 bed detached. Cavity wall insulation. Only 4 inches of loft insulation but full of old microwave boxes etc at the sides and half boarded. Last gas bill was £118 and will be cheaper now I have changed suppliers. System is turned off completely during the summer as I use dishwasher and electric shower. TRVs on only 2 of 7 rads a room stat and programmer. Gravity HW and 3 cylinder jackets in use

I reckon the combined bill for gas and leccy was £700 a year.
Just setting up combined payment for £40 a month with new supplier.
What high gas bills?

Most if not all guarantees that are extended are costed into the appliance when you purchase them. Vaillant are doing a 3 year one but the price of the appliance will rise pro rata according to my local rep. Its a numbers game with the manufacturers, they are there to make profits you dont get ought for nought.

Gravity hot water?
Elect shower in summer costing 4 times as much to run?
An old cast-iron lump of a boiler?
Only 4" of insulation? Boxes are not insulation, get 12" up there and seal off with gun all holes in the ceiling and a sealed hatch.

Get the system updated. You can knock 30% of that bill, get a decent shower and use the boiler all year around. Best get a high quality flowrate combi giving great showers. You will never look back.

It seems to me that this 10-year partial guarantee is against something that won't happen,
..and they make sure it will not happen.

So you agree the guarantee does not add much value.

surely the gtee is telling you the products is engeneered up to a standard and is likley to last 12 to 15 years under normal use with normal maintainance to give sufficient margins to allow a very low failure rate before 10 years

so it does have a value in telling you its engeneered properly thats assuming the manufacturer expects to be in buisness in ten years time

Yes, amazing how some can't see something so obvious.

Gravity hot water?
Wassa matter? Something beyond your comprehension?

An old cast-iron lump of a boiler?
FYI, I'm about to install a new gravity DHW circuit on a new boiler with a cast iron heat exchanger, the fuel for which will cost nothing. No heat bank, no mains pressure, no problem. ;)

The fuel to heat a cylinder costs nothing? A grant? Gravity? What size cylinder?

I expect he's working North of the Ribble, on a goat farm, where they use dried dung as a fuel.

Or a woodyard generating chippings and sawdust.

Or possibly an agricultural waste digester, generating methane, in Borsetshire.

You still need locking up.
