Yes its seems that this largely imaginary foe known as "Al-Qaeda" has managed to instill an element of fear into this government, and for our own protection the state is taking a great deal of action in protecting us by way of taking away the basic liberties which have been gained over many years - at the cost of the lives of people who fought for those liberties.

The current situation is one of the governments own making, and rather than deal with the reasons behind this "war on terror", here we are living under this new regime of suspicion, surveillance and reduction of our rights.

This is a new age of American McCarthyism, of witch hunts and paranoia and the UK has been dragged into a problem caused and exasperated by the US.

All these new rules, regulations and laws will be there long after the terrorist threat has gone, and they will be available to be used for other purposes after that - and these purposes will be much more sinister and threatening than any terrorist bomb

So maybe it's time it changed...

Whatever the motive, I welcome Davies action - so that hopefully we'll have a debate at last over what is happening here...

And the lies and myths of nu-failure will be exposed for what they are!!

which feeds the apathy...

I've got a feeling that there are a whole load of issues which are coming to the fore right now (both political and economic) that might just stir things up a bit...

And change won't come from those within the system, it will come from outside...

but a little push now and again from one who is 'in the system' could just help!

I think this may be unprecedented in UK law in recent history and could upset the very fabric of society as we know it, may sound dramatic but from little acorns..
Authority with too much power breeds discontent, discontent breeds rebellion which can fester until it creates the very creatures that this exercise was supposed to counter.

I understand the need to stop whats happening in todays society but is this necessarily the correct approach to the problem?

And does this have a negative effect on the power of authority in diminishing the respect it once had?

The only negative thing to come out of it is that the Unelected One won his case, rather than losing and possibly having to go for a general election. I would so love to know what concessions were rung...
