For megawatt (after he locked the post).

Any other view is bigoted and racist.

MW what a broad, unintelligent statement !!! such generalisation !! and then you say this:

Why do you generalise people?

MW

but back to your point... yes, there may be bad people in all races, religions, groups etc..... but my suspicion (and i have no facts to back this up) is that there is possibly a higher percentage of people who may disregards certain laws, in a travelling community, than in for example a residential, or religious group of people.

And this tends to be made almost legal by the precedent that car insurance companies can generalise and offer better premiums to woman, as they are seemingly deemed to be "better drivers".

Not sure why you take exception to my last post ... Generalisation is the root of most prejudice?

Hypothetically speaking: If you have a bad experience with a Roma Gypsy you may well consider that person to be a bast*** and that would be fine but, based on that experience, would you consider all Roma Gypsies bast***s?

Normal balanced individuals would not I suspect ... Racists would.

If you believe this to be incorrect then let's hear your reasoning.

Megawatt wrote

Decent people will be a benefit no matter what their background
.

What a ridiculous thing to write and typically pc.
How can someone be "decent" as you put it if their background is stealing from other people for example.
Are you suggesting that people who steal are "decent" ????.
When you lose property to gypsies you soon lose respect for them.
The last bunch who came through our way were welcomed. About 100 of them with caravans in tow. Everything was going well until locals started noticing property going missing.
The final nail in the coffin (literally) was using the local graveyard to relieve themselves. The police were notified but did nothing then the local balaclave brigade were duly summoned and told them in no uncertain terms to kindly "move on".

When people post such stupid generalisations about a race of people I lose respect for them far far quicker

To say that every Roma Gypsy is a beggar or a thief is just as ludicrous as saying every British citizen is honest and trustworthy.

There is good and bad in every race.

You don't seem to understand a gypsies way of life. Thats not surprising since you are cocooned in your cosy Devon castle.
I have no time for gypsies and less for those who advocate their entry into the UK.
But I live in hope that they will be confined to England.

I'd like to bet Norcon that I have had far more personal contact with gypsies than you have over the years so who are you to tell me that I don't understand their way of life ... You generalise their way of life based on misinformation not personal understanding

I just don't believe that any race of people can be generalised in the way you seem to.

There is good and bad everywhere and I have met some exceptionally nice gypsies with better values and beliefs than many people who regularly post their bile here.

A typical reply from you as usual Megawatt.
Bet all you want. You know nothing about me.
I have lost property to gypsies as have hundreds of local people.
Thats enough in my book to want to keep them out.
But Im not to worried about them TBH. The last lot cleared out very fast. Yes. The IRA.
They haven't gone away you know.

I only took exception to one small statement: "Any other view is bigoted and racist. "... such a niaive statement from one quite so intelligent as you... but i won't dwell...

you say that we shouldn't label a whole race based on a few individuals? well it seems most of the authorities (police, govenment, insurance) can use statistics to label race/religion/gender etc and positively discriminate - that's legal.
Would you prefer to look outside your window of a dark evening, and see 15 young men with hoods on, or 16 girls with pigtails?
QED!

It may be but I don't agree with it either.

It depends on who they are ... The 16 girls with pigtails may be the group who will kick 7 shades of sh1t out of you and nick your wallet whilst the young men with hoods on could be the undercover cops who run to your rescue ... Generalisation is a dangerous thing

Generalisation is a dangerous thing
If you were walking alone down a dark street at night and saw a goup of young men in hoodies hanging around on your preferred route, would you carry on, or take the next turn to avoid them? Personally I would generalise them as "best avoided", and think that that would probably be the safe thing to do.

Megawatt wants open border UK. People of all races can come here whenever they want to live. That includes the 12 million Roma that are scattered throughout Europe. That's his opinion and he's entitled to it. His problem is that he allows no-one else an opinion about immigration without him flouting the race card and alerting the mods to racial hatred.

He clearly has an agenda. My guess is that there is a strong link in his ancestry.

Thankfully, his view is very much in the minority. We want a referendum.
I'll be happy to accept the majority view - but he won't.
He's immensely bigoted and like any true bigot - he's too bigoted to see that.

I would do the same thing if it were a crowd of pigtailed girls ... Don't confuse concerns over generalisation with the need for common sense.

S**t id better start locking my doors and car at night then
Always sound advice

Anyone who generalises a discrete group of people based on their race, colour, religion, sexual orientation or anything else is bigoted ... Look up the definition and explain to me how this is not the case.

And, at the very least, they are foolish ... There is good and bad in every group of people.
