Flats in Barking

Its mainly about achieving thermal efficiency without walls 1M thick.
So they do it as quick & cheap ( emphasis on cheap) as possible to maximise the profits. They could make walls a metre thick, it would just cost too much. If people were aware of a buildings construction, and saw these videos, they may think twice about buying a nice new build. A friends son has just bought an "affordable" 2 bed new build about a mile away. £450k is "affordable", and affordable means unfinished, no flooring, minimal tiling, no white goods, and to top it all, they can't put their nice flat screen TV on the wall, not strong enough (according to the blurb that comes with the flat), they can also pay £10k for a parking space.

bricks don't burn much

fibreglass insulation doesn't burn much.

foamed concrete blocks don't burn much.

1m thick strawman.

Nothing to do with the cut backs in Fire Service Cover and reducing the number of Firefighters on each fire engine and closure of Fire Stations I suppose ??

cut backs in Fire Service

that would reduce response to fires that have occurred, but would probably not cause additional fires to occur.

Nor would it cause them to be built out of combustible materials.

These days everything is made out of combustible materials in the home,Industry etc (Plastics)
Fires have happened in the past, but quick local response with the adaquate number of firefighters on board a Fire Engine to combat a fire correctly have kept the statistics low.
Foe example Surrey Fire Service have been running less than seven Fire Engines for the whole County on numerous occasions, bearing in mind that the Fire Service attend RTC`s these days . Staines and Sunbury Fire Stations were closed down recently and a new modern Multi Million Pound Fire Station built to cover that area, within a week it was closed down due to lack of staff.
All Fire Brigades are having the same problems .

Fire service encourages moral hazard, if people know they will be saved in a fire they will show less regard to safety.

Fire service is not fit for purpose, it should be privatised so people can decide themselves if they need the service. Its socialism that we have to pay for the fire service /s.

I'm not convinced of that.

If you look at a country with a poor fire service, do they have less house fires?

Presumably you are not serious.

I wonder if such a fire would make the national news if it wasn’t for grenfell?

Im sure a major fire in a block of flats would make the nationals, perhaps not front page.

But the context would be different.

afaik a reg came in a while back banning any plastic on the out side of residential buildings 18 m high or higher .

hope they dont have a gas combi / boiler that needs re-placing ?

You do talk crap a lot.

In your little perfect world, do you have a lot of blackened house and flat shell masonry walls, but with no windows, no floors, no roof, no nothing inside as all that is not made of brick/fibreglass/foamed concrete?

Are you an expert?

Fire Service educates people (should they ask for education), to reduce the risk of fire occurring in the first place.

Homes are full of combustibles, as well as sources of ignition (blxxdy plug-in air fresheners are my wife's current fix).
Minimise the likelihood of ignition, if they / we won't reduce our purchasing of tat that burns.
