I suppose it doesn't come as a surprise. I am more shocked at how low the ceilings are in new builds - I can easily touch the ceiling.

What is the minimum ceiling height in a new build property these days?

Hardly news, been the case for years and years.

High ceilings can be a mare, especially in older properties. Many years ago I was lodging in an old Glaswegian tenement flat with high ceilings and single glaze windows. During the winter I would be pumping 50p pieces into the electric meter to keep an old electric bar heater going. just to see the heat rise. Looking up I would see a heat haze drifting around the ceiling, whilst I would be shivering underneath. My flat mate had the bright idea of using clingfilm as secondary glazing, that's how desperate we were. :(:(

My bugbear with new builds isn't their pokey size (they are pokey) it's more the shockingly poor quality of a lot of them, cheap, cheap, cheap.

I think our homes are not cheap to buy! Perhaps cheap to make! lol

Wait on. So you can get away with a 2m ceiling?

Apparently so, I just read average height likely to be 2.2, I always thought it was 2.4, well, it was in the 70's when minimum height was removed from building regs.

Cheap to make, rubbish builds, pokey and very very expensive. I wouldn't by a new build. Also from the ones that I have seen, and there are around 200 or so gone up recently in and around the village I live in, builders these days do not build garages that you can put a car in.
