A missing friend

I sincerely hope he is OK. An erstwhile long standing and knowledgeable member of this site disappeared because of the politics in the General forum. AFAIK he is still OK. He did come back under new account... and then mocked me for not instantly recognising him.

@EFLImpudence is a top fellow, occasionally abrupt but a top fellow regardless.

The mods now have a option in the settings which will enable you to not see the GD subforum. I requested it. I don't come here to read "toxic" posts.
Not really necessary for me (nor, really, anyone!).

As has just been demonstrated, I do very well at 'not seeing' anything which happens in GD without the need for any 'settings' ;)

...Perhaps... but I used to see GD posts in the New Posts tab. They would look quite innocent, then you click on them and it is full of the usual racists. I come here to try and help other people and to receive advice. If I want to see those kind of posts, will go to the likes of StormFront.

Fair enough. I personally never look at the 'New Posts' tab - I only look at forms of interest (nearly always just this one) and my 'Alerts'.

As recently demonstrated, I seem to have quite a lot of 'self-discipline' in this respect. When Harry was first mentioned here, I did a search to see when he had most recently posted, and found that that had been on 8th May. However, since that was a post in GD, and even though it had an innocent enough Subject, I was not even tempted to go and look at it - which is why, at that time,I did not learn anything about Harry's surgery or his statement that he had 'survived' it!

Quite so - the very reason I almost never even look there. I do, occasionally, participate in online discussions in places where one expects the traffic to be controversial, aggressive, unpleasant or whatever, but that's through choice - and not the sort of thing I want to get involved with when participating in a 'DIY' (or other 'serious') forum!
