RNLI

Sitting on the fence here but if people put themselves in deliberate danger, I’d that really what the RNLI is for?

Whatever helps the RNLI is good. My friends dad died in 1981 of the coast of Cornwall.

The fund raising at the time was unbelievable by all accounts.

So you approve of the RNLI.

Let’s not use the sacrifices and dedications of the volunteers to point score.

Indeed, let's not, but your censure should be directed at the people waving their wangers around saying that they've stopped donating to the RNLI because they don't like the people whose lives they are saving, and how they should leave them to die at sea.

@MoD this thread is in poor taste. I’ve reported it.

It's poor taste to defend the RNLI against people who think they should apply partisan politics to decide who they should bother to turn out to save?

Really?

Yes.

Just as it is with mountain rescue teams, cave rescue teams, doctors treating stroke, heart attack, diabetes, cancer, gang violence victims.

You fund raised on their behalf and have no idea how much you raised?
It wasn't a solo effort. Not even sure I was privvy to how much was eventually raised or that I even cared at the time. That lies with the bean counters.
Did you miss the objective or something?
It wasn't an auction. Every little helps.

Did you know that every time you RWR dolts announce you are recinding your donations because of right wing political whining, the RNLI donations increase?

There fore you would be a hypocrite along with the majority
Accepting assistance if my life was in danger makes me a hypocrite?

How?

I am sure they were polite regarding your effort.

Proven to be untrue. It's all in their accounts. Shame you didn't do your research... again.

Since 2021, the RNLI has come under fire from the far right for rescuing migrants crossing the English Channel in small boats. HM Coastguard called the lifeboats, just as they do for any emergency. Nigel Farage sneered they were a “taxi service” for human traffickers.

The public reacted strongly. Donations jumped by 3,000%, and visits to the volunteer page rose 270% after it was revealed that volunteers had been verbally abused. In 2024, the RNLI launched 114 times to small boats, just over 1% of national call-outs, saving 58 lives, including children.

Who gains from playing British citizens off against migrants?

The five Channel-facing South East stations (Dover, Ramsgate, Margate, Dungeness, Walmer) launched a combined 311 times in 2025.
Of the RNLI's national total of 109 Channel small-boat launches, virtually all of them would have come from this cluster of stations (Dover and Walmer are explicitly the ones repeatedly named in RNLI's own case studies as the primary responders).
Regional percentage (launches):

Launches
Total launches, 5 SE Channel stations311
Channel small-boat launches (national figure)109
Channel share of these stations' launches~35%

Quite a difference a little scrutiny makes.

The new CEO is doing a great job of turning things around.

They should charge the criminals who are sending illegal immigrants in boats for the services of the RNLI / Royal Navy.

So here's a couple of questions for all the RNLI haters here...

What exactly would you have them do when a small boat in trouble is reported?

Let people drown? Yes or no?

Because the RNLI is set up to rescue anyone, no questions asked.

And they are manned by human beings, unlike their detractors it seems!

So would you have the crews be in a situation whereby they know that they could have saved people but were told not to?

Back when small boats were at their highest...

The Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) is on course for the highest annual fundraising total in its near 200-year history. Donations swelled after the charity attracted huge public support following rightwing attacks for helping save the lives of asylum seekers at risk of drowning in the Channel.

The RNLI said it has received a significant increase in support, with online donations rising by 50% this year.

Titter

Each time there are right wing attacks, the RNLI see a boost in donations.

Keep it up boyos.
Great result, only a really vindictive seafarer would want to leave someone to drown
