198 kHz qrt

Nor do I, but I imagine that there were probably very few other accessible atomic clocks? I have a feeling that the vey first may have been the one at NPL, which I think appeared at some point in the1950s?
I think it was a South American idea or design from 1940's but I too believe the first built in the world was at NPL and easy to remember as 1955 as year I was born. :)

IIUC from an IET lecture at Savoy Place the first to be used after NPL was bespoke made by HP for use at Greenwich in early half of 1960's and following several clones of it, it became available as a standard model. However he also said; history shows it was already a commercial product when Greenwich started acquiring them later in 1960's.
From that I'll assume they probably made a prototype for field testing?

1955 was a fantastic year - I was born then too - yes there are some old gits on this forum folks ;)

It's one of the earliest years that I can remember in any detail.

It was the year when one of my grandfathers died. I was sufficiently old (6 years) to understand a fair bit about what was going on, annoyed that everyone seemed to be trying to 'protect me' from the realities of life (including death) - and frankly quite upset that it was considered 'inappropriate' that I should be allowed to attend the funeral.

It was also the year when my parents got their first car - a Morris 8 !

Kind Regards, John

How did France get into this? :-)
Isn't a git in France a type of house?
We used to do weekends in La Forrestelle socially and I did a lot of electrical work for the expat. we used to laugh at old gits working in an old git.

I'm assuming there is a spelling issue but something I've never thought to look up

EDIT: Until now... gîte

Even if I didn't look it up, I don't think I would ever have been inclined to think that the correct spelling was "git" - given that the pronunciation is along the lines of 'jeet' ;)

But then many of the French pronunciations are very different to ours so I wouldn't have even queried it ;)

and Jeet was in fact one of the several words I entered into google translate while trying to find the correct spelling

Fair enough, but I don't think I've heard an English (or any other nationality) person pronouncing it other than something like 'jeet'.

I kind of agree except he in particular always said git and it may very well have been my introduction to the word. I know very little French and it's spellings so little point in pursuing.
