2 amp socket question

A slight aside, but the C5 "Cloverleaf" connector is rated at 2.5A, and generally uses 0.75mm cable.
Quite so - and look how small the pin and receptacle are, and how little contact area there is, compared with the so-called "2A" plugs/sockets being discussed here!

Are you suggesting any part of it would melt should the load be 3, 4, 5 or 6A?

I didn't say that (although it should be avoided). I merely stated that if the load does not exceed 2A then all the protective device needs to provide is fault protection so there is no need for the sockets/plugs to be additionally fused.
