2A socket intended for phone use!

I have just heard back from MK technical about this 2A socket and they state

"This product is no longer available, we believe it was withdrawn some 10 years or so ago, primarily it was aimed at the Middle East market - 2 pins were used for the telephone circuit with the earth pin being used to ensure correct polarity."

So the seller has found some old stock!

I vaguely remember seeing similar phone sockets, might have been Australia
