I want to run a cable in oval conduit with a 90 deg corner and plaster over it. It would seem sensible to mount a recess box at the corner, so that the corner is identified and so that the cable can be replaced in future. There will be no connections in the recess box; the cable will simply pass through it. Should the box be earthed?

Either use PVC conduit and a 90 deg bend or the flexible stuff above would do.

Oval conduit / ega tube doesn't do bends and taking it in to any form on corner set won't stop pull in / out problems.

Why are you so keen to capsulate the cable, it could be simply buried in the plaster, subject to safe zone and rcd rules.

Fitting oval conduit to enable cables to be replaced at some later date is a waste of time and money.

By the time the cable needs to be replaced in 40 years time, the entire installation will be totally obsolete, and the chances of someone wanting a similar sized cable in the exact same route is zero.

Consider a property rewired in 1970 and compare that to a new installation today. The fact that a few cables can be pulled through the old conduits is irrelevant, since the number and positioning of sockets/switches/lighting will be completely different.

I usually create a curve by cutting several 'V' shapes in one side.

I then bend to shape, and put pvc tape (white, because it looks nice and I'm very fussy!) over each cut, which holds it in shape and prevents the egatube getting plaster inside.

Thanks very much for these various suggestions. On reflection, I think putting the cable in conduit is pointless.

Plasterers claim, and it's a highly believable claim, that the edges on their tools are very precious, and the last thing any plasterer wants to do is to damage them by hacking into cables.

Nonsense.

What if it's not a rewire in 40 years time but a tweak in a few years, or even a few months?

What if someone wants to change a 1-gang switch for a 2-gang, or a 1-way to a 2-way, and needs to drop an extra cable?

What if someone wants to add a new socket or FCU and wants to replace 1 cable running between 2 sockets?

Syntax..........

Oval conduit is ega tube, fine for straight runs. Useless for bends, turns and attempting to add cable to (since most fitters will fit small tube for light drops and 25mm for rings with 2 cable max).

Conduit is round (metal or plastic) and comes with a host of bends, boxes and bits. 20mm is the smallest and will allow an extra light drop, 25mm and lube allows 3 x 2.5mm cables.

The OP was talking ega tube NOT conduit, and ega tube is pretty useless when trying to allow for future change and additions.

You'd have some difficulty making an oval tube installation comply with regulation 522.8.2

"Where buried in the structure, a conduit system or cable ducting system...shall be completely erected between access points before any cable is drawn in"

Plastering over bends in plastic conduit outside safe zones does not comply with regs, because the position of the bend cannot be determined.

Sorry- but the OP was regarding corners, not r/a bends on wall faces.

A safe zone corner is easy enough to id, it will be between 2 x outlets and anyway corners (>150mm) are sort of protected motorways for cabling per Build Regs.
