ah... the old "loose factory neutral" fault that was sent around a while back..

quite common on some boards, the neutral from the rcd to the bar is not tightened down enough at the factory ( or as they claim, may have worked loose during transit and installation )..
they include a not now saying to check the factory connections prior to energising the CU..
 
I have always checked factory connections on CU's and DB's. There is usually a note or sticker stating to check them on the kit, and has been for aslong as I recall.
 
I'd be inclined to say that it was one of the tails into the main switch rather than a connection to the neutral bar which failed.

The tails come into the top of the main switch and that's where a little overheating occurred!
 
That's the trouble with modern consumer units, the terminals are very hard to tighten properly, that single pinch screw will work loose with time, why don't manufacturers take heed of these problems, and bring back PROPER terminals with large twin clamping screws??? (as per the traditional Wylex boxes), and this problem will hopefully be greatly reduced! :LOL: :LOL: :LOL:
