Adding another light switches back to back

We wish to add another light switch to the other side of a wall. At the moment we have a light switch in the living room and we would like to control this light from the hall but retain the existing 1-gang switch in the living room. Effectively back to back on both side of the wall.

Are they any implications of having both switches back to back in a 1960's brick wall?

Would it be as simple as just connecting the new 2-way switch to the other 1-way switch via connect the red and black wires, and not going via the ceiling rose?

It depends on the thickness of the wall, it may be better to mount the new one at a slightly different height. There is no problem with "strappers" in the switches, the existing switch will need to be changed for a 2way.
