We all know that pupils very quickly sus out the teachers they can play the fool with and those that they cant. I have always found out in advance who the 'potentials' are and generally sort them out on the first day. Yes, I have had the odd problem kid but on the whole I certainly can't complain.

Never did resort to 'a good slap' even in my early teaching years when the belt (or tawse) was used.

Ahh.....the scrape of the chalk, the slap of the tawse :P happy days predating my years in the Navy

Tim . The picture on them jumps about a bit and never settles down.

Six of the belt (cane was a doddle) at school soon sorted ya and there was no way you would have mentioned it to your parents as you would have got the same again..
You see these parents pleading with there kid Oh please behave and getting told to F off. I am sure i would take it.
I was never an angel but knew right from wrong. And from just raising my voice so do my own teenagers

I'm of the opinion that my year at my school was the last year of "civilised" children who sat down and wanted to learn.

It always seemed that the years below us were intent on causing trouble. My friends and I always used to say "we were never like that" etc.

At sixth form the problem grew. In the upper sixth we realised most of the lower sixth were chav scum who would probably fail all their a-levels. For some of these sixth form was an easy option - they get their EMA, can spend it legally on cigs (not any more i know), get to doss about in the common room all day, and generally make life harder for the people there who WANT good A-levels in order that they might go to university. :(

ADHD is a made up "condition" to excuse the parents from being to blame. After all its not the parents fault their kids eat junk, and have a complete lack of discipline, is it?

All old people say that about the young.

You're just saying it to fit in
