Advice before I remove bathroom tiles

Hi all,



I'm going to be attempting to renovate our bathroom in a months time. It's a 90s house and most internal walls are stud and plasterboard.

My plan was to remove the tiles as cleanly as possible from the plasterboard, and presuming I didn't destroy it in the process just to re-tile on the existing plasterboard.

I have had a little bit of an exploratory look behind the tiles and I am wondering if it is actually worth me wasting my time trying to remove these tiles and I would be better off just ripping down all the walls and starting again.

From the hole I can see the plasterboard is covered in a blue/green material which I presume is the moisture resistant covering. However, this material is pretty much coming away with the tile adhesive and I strongly suspect that when I scrape off all the adhesive, most of the blue/green stuff is going to go with it.

Would I be wasting my time just trying to remove the tiles?

Tiles are usually stuck on pretty good!

Yes, you would be wasting your time, remove the boards too, then you can replace with a moisture resistant plasterboard, or cement board/insulated tile backer board for wet area or external walls.

It's also possible to tile over existing tiles, if time or money are an issue.

No, time or money isn't a particular issue. We have another bathroom we can use fortunately.

Experience is my main issue as I have not boarded a wall before but I like to try and learn. I was considering trying to install an LED lit wall niche anyway


Can anyone suggest a good video guide to show me how to learn to install boards in a bathroom so I don't miss anything. Thank you

No, time or money isn't a particular issue. We have another bathroom we can use fortunately.
