He is being a pedantic ass. Work needs doing which can be noisy sometimes. Weekdays between 8 and 8 is perfectly ok

It seems your neighbour may be a tw*t. Six o'clock is not unreasonable even if he does work nights - thats not your fault. You could knock and tell him you are about to make some noise, which is polite but does it make the noise any less annoying. I would 'blank' him forever until the end of time.
