We didn't join the EU. We joined the EEC, which gradually and deliberately mutated into the EU, which was unrecognisable from the thing we'd joined.
Your "Anti-European" term is (deliberately) loaded. We're part of Europe, along with all the other wonderful countries. Most are against the bureaucratic anti-democratic body that's managed to seize control over its governments, not the place itself.
We'll be even more glad to be outside of the EU once Ukraine joins, which will bankrupt it and probably lead it towards war with Russia.
