Can you not just do it with your gmail or hotmail calendar and manage on your computer then set to sync on the phone?

google calendar and hotmail calendars both work as you describe.If you make changes on the phone or on the PC, the other is updated automatically.

So, if your wife puts a romantic dinner in the diary when you are at work, you have no excuses.....

If you have an android, then you probably have a gmail account, and Google sync will synchronise Google calendar, contacts and mail with Outlook and a few other similar programs

All the android calendar apps, will use the gmail calendar

Not anymore it won't. At least for new users. They've pulled the Sync tool.

However, a very useful tool that works very well synching all the various Google apps is MyDesktop Companion.
