Very similar to the other thread but that one seemed to go more the way of "If you've already had the work done, why are you questioning cost now?"

We want to get a small (2500mmx1500mmx2800mm height) bathroom refurbished.

Currently it is:-

Lino floors over concrete
Some boxwork which might be hiding damp on an external wall
Shower-over-bath, loo and basin
Small amount of tiling

We want it to have:-

New suite (with walk-in shower instead of bath; all in same position as current suite)
Heated floors
Full tiling

We are based in south London.

We have been quoted £3,800 + VAT for labour and basic materials - It looks like we need to souce suite and tiles.

The price is all in,the chap doing it is not vat registered. The price is the price she has paid, she did have a quote for 4250 from a firm and another for 3100,she liked the chap who actually gave the cheaper quote and he did spec the job out to what he would use the others did not just gave a quote.the job is finished and of a very good standard and she is happy. So like with most things get 3 quotes to give you a better idea of prices in your area.

The brain surgeon is able to see the patient on a screen and move around, the plumbers here have to go on your description!

Well the plumbers on here seem to think so, as when people criticise their prices and make them upset, they begin comparing themselves to brain surgeons or lawyers (usually).

Still doesn't change the fact that an experienced plumber's eye might notice something in the job that you don't think to be relevant though, so a quote on customer description only is going to be inaccurate at best.

Thanks Cajar.

I think we were just a bit surprised by the quote. Which did not mention any relevant element in the job that might affect the price.
