Anyone drive a weird car?

I'm on my 3rd Citroen BX 16v. The men in white coats want to fit me with a long sleeved canvas jacket but are never sure which transporter my car is on the back of at any time

'Er indoors loved her 3 diesel BX's......armchair comfort, front brakes that make you nut the windscreen, rust free bodywork.......and very rusty hydraulic pipes! The big let down of the original vehicle.
John :)

Once owned a Yugo 513, just don't get me started!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We had a BX TZD turbo Estate, fantastic car, the original pocket rocket. We had it for some years, the wife drove it mostly, when I changed it for a ZX she complained it was slow.

Blimey! My dad liked his BXs but they're like hens' teeth now. He currently smokes a Xantia but even they're getting hard to come by these days!

I had a Friend who drove Daf Variomatic , I seem to remember it had a system of Belts that expanded as you drove it ..... weird

A friend of mine had one for a while. Weird thing to drive - you'd accellerate up the road but the engine revs stayed the same.

I had a friend with one too, I still have the friend but she doesn't have the car now.

A weird sensation indeed! In many ways, a clever idea - truly stepless gear changing. Rolls, Mercedes etc prided themselves on their "near seamless" automatic gearchanges but the humble DAF really WAS seamless! Very tall though, because of the space taken up by the belt system. My mate had one (or rather his mum did) and watching it in the mirror, it was like being followed by a letter box!

Never had one, but had a lift in one a couple of times. As you say. Weird sensation. People who had them seemed to like them. The Marathon was reputed to be quite quick. One got away from a friend driving a "proper" Mini Cooper S one night up the start of the Bridgenorth Road from the Stewpony at Stourton in the Midlands. Bendy uphill road.

My mate''s mum's car was a Marathon. A 1300, I seem to remember. Didn't feel quick but because the engine sat at peak torque all the time (unless you backed right off the throttle) it actually accelerated quite quickly. My other mate had an 1100cc Mark II Escort and I had (cough!) a Reliant Rebel. Needless to say, the DAF would easily waste us both in a drag race but didn't corner very well.

Just been looking on line, looks as if the 1275 S was 76 bhp, and the DAF Marathon, (an 1100 according to Wikipedia incidentally) 60 bhp.
I've been thinking about it, and the chap in the S said he was catching up around the bends, and falling back on the straight bits. Probably due to the DAF always "being in the right gear" so to speak.
I started off with a Reliant Regal "Supervan" because you could drive it on a bike license! :)
We've had one or two slightly weird cars over the years. A Marlin roadster for a while, a Series one Landy, and a couple of LWB Landys. Nothing for ages now though.
