Can anybody please help me:
Last weekend I offered to help my girlfriend attach various items to her walls, she has just moved into a new build flat in SE London.
The flat is clad wall to wall with plasterboard. I managed to put up curtain rails via normal wall plugs and they seem to be secure (although have not put up the heavy double lined cuirtains yet!), as well as a bathroom cabinet using special wall anchors that expand flush when inserted into the plasterboard, facilitated by the large clearance between the plasterboard and wall.
The problems set in when I tried to put up the shelves in the bedroom/sitting room, having drilled a large 10mm hole in the plasterboard wall to accomodate the wall anchor, there appeared to be very little clearance(a few milimeters )between the plasterboard and the wall, hence making it impossible to use the wall anchors as there is no clearance behind the wall for the anchors to open up!
Does anyone know of alternative fastening I could use to correct this problem as I am now stuck with a large unsightly 10mm hole in the plasterboard? Furthermore if anyone knows the best way of filling in drill holes in plasterboard I would be most grateful for any tips?
Kind Regards
Tom
