Theres only about 15m of 6mm swa under ground, could you change all the rest of it to a bigger cable, but leave the 6mm under ground are is that a no sorry if thats a stupid qustion? This qustion is for those who read my last post

No.

All that would happen would be that the piece of smaller cable would overheat and then need replacing anyway.

uklad - basically take note of this:
i have a 6mm swa running from my fuse box on a 50amp mcb with rcd about 60meters to the barn
That cable is far too small already, so you cannot use that for anything else.

As a minimum, you would want a new 25mm cable to replace the existing 6mm. The cable alone will be several hundred pounds.
and stop d*****g around trying to make what you want to do work without putting in a larger cable, OK?

ok will it be cheaper to run 25mm T&E in conduit where i can then 25mm swa for the under ground bit? Is that aloud?

25mm twin and earth in conduit
I'm not even sure you can get 25mm twin and earth, I have never seen it above 16mm.
It would be more reliable to just get the whole cable replaced with SWA by a competent electrician.

I'd like to see you get 25mm T&E.
(Just looked and table 4D5A only goes up to 16mm)

Why are you making such a meal of this? Just buy as much 25mm SWA as you need. I've had a quick look on eBay and found 25mm, 3-core BASEC approved for £3.50/m as part of a surplus stock clearance.

Am not doing it myself! I just wanna know what am askin for before i get sparky out and cheapest way todo it thanks for the help

One cable for the entire length is cheapest method.

Breaking cable would require junctions or resin joints and simply add time and expense to the job.

The depth rules for u/g cable under road / light traffic / farm machines is 600mm between surface and top of duct.

SWA doesn't 'have' to be ducted if laid in soft sand to prevent flint and sharp stone impact, but best to do duct from a mtce / service / replacement vantage.

Your only realistic option to avoid any more bodging is to ring a few sparks and get a few quotes.

If you want to try to save money then ask your electrician if you can do any of the trench digging/manual labour/running of cables yourself. These must be to your electricians approved routes. ;)

you could install some 4" waste pipe with sweeping bends so that in the future a new cable could be pulled through if ever required.
