hi, i am looking for quotes to add 4 low voltage lights and possibly an iluminated mirror to our bathroom.

the house is about ten years old and the lighting circuit appears to be on the same circuit as the bathroom fan. this circuit isnt protected by an rcd.

what options is an electrician likely to advise - as i believe that all new bathroom wiring must be protected by an rcd.

would it be simpler to renew the consumer unit.

what options is an electrician likely to advise
  • An RCBO for the lighting circuit.
  • Making the bathroom part of the circuit a separate branch, from an RCD FCU.
  • Making the bathroom circuit a separate one on an RCBO or through a standalone RCD.
would it be simpler to renew the consumer unit.
No.

Possibly a better idea in the short or long term, depending on what you have, but not simpler.
