bearing for steel?

so do you say a 254uc is over specified over 7 metres,

do not want to argue the toss, unlike some so called professionals on here, so hey ho.....
No, the reactions stated above would equate to 20kN/m which is about the limit for a 254UC for that span.. but lets not go off topic

whatever size steel.... it can sit on whatever sized wall it is designed to

so how can your steel sit 150mm on a 100mm wall

mininum bearing for steel on masonry is 150mm but you could be comfortable with 100mm if it was for a doorway. The only time it would be less if it was say a precast concrete slab onto a steel beam and you could have 75mm.
