I wonder who can explain this...

"Fishing represents about 0.4% of our economy. Why did it represent such a stumbling block? Why was Boris so obsessed with it? The EU wanted to repatriate 25% of the catch over 6 years. Boris wanted 60%. The agreement they’ve reached is... 25% of the catch over 5.5 years (hilarious). So it was the biggest stumbling block to a deal, even though it doesn’t matter to us, and Boris suddenly gave way completely on it yesterday?"

Dare say the EU are bricking it worrying about Scotland gaining independanve and then wanting to join the EU

Germany have enough problems paying for several. Other countries with there caps in hand

Let alone Scotland turning up. With there hands out

you said it was a matter of principle

But a couple of days ago UK caved in

not much of a principle them.

you can't explain the Doris cave.

Is the border between UK (GB) and UK (NI) no longer a matter of principle?

Another Doris cave.

Fact is with out an agreement or dogs breakfast over fishing in. UK. Waters

Could have lead to a confrontation with other countries as the UK would have been obliged to police our waters against foreign vessels
Predominantly French vessels

Pretty simple really Hmmmm

Or is that what you would have liked to happen ;)

It's got nowt to do with how much the fishing economy is worth to GDP

Let's face it since this caper started 4 years ago u (JohnD) have never been right about any thing ever

Blimey u should be given an award a whinging award

2000 pages in this Brexit deal and only a few days to scrutinise it.
Better to wait before passing judgement.
There is no 14 day cooling off period like you get if you are rushed into signing a contract for double glazing.

Sorted....LMAO

DP thinks Brexit is sorted......LMAO :ROFLMAO:

EU is our biggest trade partner by a country mile......we've just put the massive trade barriers in the way of the worlds biggest customs union on our doorstep.

And DP thinks it's sorted.

Yep. Now we’ve shown them the way, my money would be on at least one or more countries beginning an exit by the end of 2022.

lol. So our deal.

We have a £79bn trade deficit in goods with the EU.
We have a £18bn trade surplus in services with the EU.

The deal provided tariff and quote free but not paperwork or regulatory free access. So there will be some more trade friction for goods - how much we don't know but trade in goods will ebb.

This agreement does not cover services.

So the EU has maintained the flow of goods but now there are barriers to to service exports where we excel.

Well I suppose the deal covered fish, perhaps in the minute detail porn might be mentioned. :sneaky::LOL:

What you have to understand is that this is part of the slow erosion of democracy (what little there is of it) in the UK.
Allow as little little time for analysis as possible on a deal negotiated by unelected 'advisors' and UKcrats!

It's the same with the emergency legislation.
Reviewed every 6 months with a maximum of 90 minutes allowed for debate.
I say 'debate', but the speaker said at the last 'review' that he was concerned but did nothing about it.

The minutia of our lives is now being ruled/ruined by decree!

But as to the deal, it's of course a worse one than we had.

Take that red herring, fishing.
After the five years transition, 'the UK and EU will regularly negotiate on access to each other's waters'
So that's when UK fishermen will realise that nothing will really change as any agreement follows the money of the rich owners!

A small crumb is on healthcare. EHIC cards will be valid until expiry.
Surely people will have heard of the possibility of this and renewed this year, thus giving cover to end of 2024 and planned accordingly?
After that the government is planning a "UK Global Health Insurance Card".
Which should someone wish to experience the 'luxury' of a holiday, then no doubt that rather than a free system the cost will be probably be more than the average person's yearly EU contribution!

Erasmus has been withdrawn from, no doubt in order to keep more money rolling in to the UK's privatised universities and the UK economy rather than EU funding helping out students.
Thus allowing the experience for a foreign education for UK citizens to become only for the rich.
(Although those from N.I. will still be able to benefit - another 'border' down the Irish sea?)

But hey, the tories have never liked the European 'social model' because it tries to level the playing field!
