Got to laugh at these people saying money is alright or not bad ,, the basic is 27k with very few people earning less than 30k for an average of 37 hours a week ...34 hours on a 4 day week for 6 months and 40 hours a week on 5 days week tell me who pays more.

So are you saying thats good or bad. As i said in earlier post my friend works for BG. He's earning a lot less than he was when he worked for himself.

OK, so he also does a few jobs on the side for cash. He has to keep looking over his shoulder when he does though as its a sackable offence.

I cant see why anyone of you would want to work for BG. Customer service, prices, working conditions etc. Too many courses turning out too many plumbers, gas fitters. Plus the EU influx. CORGI must be saturated and competition fierce - BG must be laughing the little heads off !!!!

Thank god i'm a spark :D :D

Max1 you say your mate is a service fitter .. They don`t do rota`s or work saturdays Any weekend worj or late days would be overtime so you don`t really know what your talking about.. SO why has your mate given up a lot more money and having to do privates for a lot less money... Doesn`t add up

Sorry Namsag. Admit i was a little confused earlier. He's doing overtime. He gave up working for himself when he unfortunately became a widdowed dad of two young boys. He was too busy to cope self employed and worked long days plus the evening admin side.

Hence his 'drop' to BG. Privates makes his money up. The only thing that doent add up is how cruel life can be at times

Most patches I knew of they did namsag, servicing fitters and sfl were expected to do a rostered saturday but obviously no standby or GA. Same for most of our neighbouring patches aswell.

Ollski they didn`t round our way but where expected to come in on overtime or radicals.. Max1 Personally if i was in that situation i would prefer to organise my own work and not be time constrained by someone else . Still don`t add up

so do service fitters solely work within home their post-code? If this is the case surely there must'nt be much competition for a British Gas job if your only competing with other RGI's located within your postcode

You work within the patch post code, if all goes to plan you will work close to your home post code but that may be 40 percent of time CENTRICA have jut re-organised and some patches cover 3 counties and have 100 engineers per patch so it just your luck

in theory you could be sent to work anywhere in the country. unlikely though as they realise it wouldnt go down well and there is more than enough work locally to keep most going.

i still dont understand the naysayers opinion on working for BG. the money is pretty good for the hours you work. if you need more money they practically give it away for doing radicals. you dont really have to get involved in a lot of the nastier jobs that all heating engineers love to hate. you get home at the same time most days and forget about the job completely. no responsibility, outside the safety aspect.

customer service?? no different than any other RGI
prices?? none of your concern
working conditions?? whats the problem there?

i think its an easy job.....maybe thats just me :?

So how hard is it getting into the company then mate? is it a case of they only take the people that are the most experianced or people that they can train up further?

being honest you will probably only get a job if you know nothing at all and get an apprenticeship or adult training scheme.......or if you are a reasonably competent engineer who isnt a complete tool.

what they wont have is someone coming to an interview thinking hes gods gift to heating and falling flat on his arse when he is asked simple questions.

if however you answer the questions correctly and then fall flat on your arse once you get the job thats fine  , they will just retrain you.

?

But the assessment is for an hour only. So how many multiple choice assessments can you realistically do in an hour.

I think that those are exactly the reasons why many people prefer to work for BG without having to bother about those problems.

For some getting home at the same time each day is good without spending the evening giving quotes they know they have little chance of getting when the EU people can do it at half the price.

if they did it the same as the ACS then it would be 30.
