Hi,
We seem to have a blocked toilet.
Its the downstairs loo, think its due to new luxury thick loo paper!
I cleared out everything in the bowl, put bleach down and left it (twice), also put boiling water down twice (advice from other sites). The water level slowly returns to normal.
I have now made a plunger with the mop, binbags and duct tape. It certainly did something - water/muck (but not waste) came up the sink plus there was lots of gurgling in the box thing thats in the corner of the downstairs loo (the toilet is built into the wall, so no access to cistern etc). After much plunging the toilet seemed to clear normally, so tried 2 sheets of loo paper - but it didn't clear and is back to draining slowly (however, not as slow as before).
When you run the tap there is gurgling/bubbling in the loo.
(We have a communal septic tank as live out in the country, the other toilets/sinks are all fine in the house).
Any suggestions or is it time to call the plumber?

I'm not sure. The bathroom is tiled up to waistheight and in the corner (between the loo on the back wall and the sink on the lefthand - external - wall) is a tiled box approx 10inches high, 10inches deep and 1 1/2 foot long. Guess its something to do with the plumbing due to the gurgling!
(apologies for lack of knowledge, been in the house 1 year - 5 year old house)

In was also wondering if it was one of those!

sounds like a macerator.
does it make a noise like a pump when the wc is flushed ?

No, there is no noise from the box. The water is now draining at almost normal speed but it doesn't empty before filling (if that makes sense!)

Agile how long have you lived in north west london.
surley you have picked up some of the local lingo,by now.

I can even admit that I have been to the Crown on a Sunday lunchtime when they had topless dancers and a collection for the IRA ! That was obviously a long time ago. No more dancers now!

you say the sink affects it aswell
have you any external drains outside you can lift and check ?
