Boiler/heating issue

I contacted him and he said that the flaming out is most likely (actually he was certain) caused by the new hoses being too wide and he will come back to fit a different pair. I would need to do some research on this but to be honest I trust the guy so hopefully this will get resolved soon.

Well now you know who to call next time and - who never to call again. Thanks for the update..

The boiler is an old Baxi Solo model - there were 2 hoses (orange) that were changed - in fact the old hoses were pretty much falling apart.
The old hoses (air pressure switch pipes) were red and black on these, and because they were so prone to going brittle and splitting, Baxi bought out a replacement kit of clear hoses with reinforcing threads, similar to petrol pipes.

Another update on my end - the hoses were replaced and the boiler and the system is working fine (for more than 24 hours now). I have a question though on the work carried out last Friday - when the engineer left on Friday afternoon, the boiler was left with the lid open - is this allowed? I think someone mentioned that the lid should only be open in the presence of a qualified engineer (attching the picture once again).

If by "lid", you mean the bottom half of the case (missing in pic), then it is OK for it to be taken of by you, as you need to to adjust the thermostat. I would be very wary though, as the inner case will get extremely hot and will cause a burn if touched. The heat is one of the reasons all the plastic bits in the bottom disintegrate very quickly.
