which is not the same as "average earnings"

Dont try and twist it now :?

Average salary earnings are based on full time adult employees.

The average male wage (ordinary time earnings) in Australia is $73,850 per annum

The poorest wages are found in the accommodation and restaurant sector where full-time workers earn $49,785 on average.

A little more than Joe's statement that the the overall average wage is $40k :?

So, by the way you calculate it, what is the average earnings in the UK?

Its also worth factoring the hours worked.

Here in the a GPs working hours are longer than almost anyother, which means almost all full-time GPs have live at home partners.

My mum has a 50% job share with another GP and still does more than 40hours a week. You dont get much hard work than from those who are self employied.

The average UK salary for males, as of June 2012 is £30'689

The average Australian salary for males equates to £47,492

But we are not talking about currency conversion, we are talking about the average salary in Australia, which is more than $40k pa.

why won't you answer my question, which was about average earnings?

The only person asking about 'average earnings' is you

I am talking about the average salary. But in answer to your question, the average 'earnings' per year as of April this year is £24,284

The average wage in Oz is $40K so a doctor earns double the average wage.

In the UK the average wage is about £26K - so a GP earns well over 4 times the average wage at £120K.

Why is that? The cost of living is far higher in Oz too.

I have read that our doc's bang in loooong hours so their wage reflects this.

I would not bat an eye if a doc took home £120k if that doc is working 80 hours per week. I could probably get near to that amount if i doubled my hours. :P

That's junior doctors, the ones that kill people - not the money grabbing consultants.
