I suspect that most don't NEED to retire at state retirement age.

No - its lived experience when you travel through these estates - like the one Pete mentioned where the women walk about in dressing gowns and slippers at 4pm - council estate houses with expensive cars on the drive. --- Before the debunkers chip in. I know they are the council houses because a few years ago they were all fitted with external insulation and the privately brought ones were not. I also know some one who lives in one of those council houses and they enjoy 2 holidays a year.
I dont get why people are not kicked out of council houses when clearly they can afford to live somewhere else but that would upset their 2 holidays a year and BMW lifestyle.
There was lots of talk from the government about a decade ago of making council or housing association tenancies temporary, perhaps for a fixed period until you sort yourself out. It seemed like a good idea but I think it faded away sadly.
It probably infringed human rights or something. Even if it had happened it wouldn't be retrospective though. Sadly those already there basically own the place, and their kids can inherit too in many cases. Perhaps their kids kids, who knows. They're basically VIPs, paid for by the rest of us. Good old socialism, there's always someone more equal.

Years ago council tenants would get an inspector come round...
Cut the grass, move that matrass etc or you'll lose this house....
He'd get his head kicked in these days.
The same thing happens now in Bournville village trust, if you drive round there it's really nice all gardens looked after etc, but thats not run by Birmingham city Council.

Yeah, mugs like us have to work for at least 35 years to earn our full pension. Maybe we should all don a pair of sweatpants, take to the sofa and order our meals from Just Eat?

In each case I have NEVER SAID ITS IN MY STREET.
I have always said its steets and areas NEAR to me.
No, what I can’t understand is why we bother to get 35 qualifying years of you end up getting more for not doing them. It’s as if it’s telling you not to bother.
