I believe that their attitude now is that we should all just accept that they're compulsive liars. Just because they said it, that didn't mean that they actually meant it.

I know someone like this, it's a really weird condition. You can prove that they said something that was false, and that they previously said the opposite of what they're now saying. It has absoutely no effect on them, they don't believe themselves so don't think you should either.
