Hi guys!

We are considering a bunk bed for an 11 year old & a 6 year old to share.

We want the sturdiest possible.

Which is best, steel or wood?

Wondered if any of you had experience of buying these?

I know the best thing would be to go and eyeball some, but a lot of places are internet only and you can't touch the goods (so to speak!)

Definitely go for wood.......only saying that because when I was a kid, I sat up on the bottom bunk and split my head open on the metal rail of the top bunk......I now have a fear of metal bunk beds

I found with the wooden bunks that after a couple of years they creak like an old ship no matter how much we tightened them. We ended up buying steel bunks with 8cm round frame ends. Like Kev said you can fix them to the wall or they are available in wider sizes which are a lot more stable.

Kev ....

Timber is warm and steel is cold - is there really a decision to make?

Metal bunk beds creak and groan at the slightest movement. When the kids moved into separate rooms we chopped the bunk down to make one single. It's still as noisy as hell.
